Today is all about the blueberry! Blueberries are Sir Streusel’s favorite summer fruit. Strawberries run a close second, but I believe the blueberry wins being his favorite by a nose. I am sharing a few of his very favorite blueberry recipes that I bake for him so that you can use up all those blueberries you have picked this summer. I am nice that way!
I have rounded up my favorite summer desserts using the deliciousness of the summer fruits that are available right now. It is time to get the cobblers baking and the trifles in the fridge!
I have been posting Valentine’s goodness for 2 weeks. I have rounded all of them into one post for you. I am helpful like that. Aren’t you glad you are my friend? There is so much goodness here to choose from.
I introduced my Sweet Mama to Snapchat. I created a monster.
Now I am just going to throw this next one out there on the table for ya.
Her crowning moment was the video we did. This was a complete spur of the moment, off the cuff, first take. She is a pro!
Now the scene stealer isn’t Sweet Mama, as cute as she is, it’s Big Daddy completely ignoring us just walking around, minding his own business in the background. #heaintgotnouseforsnapchat
Valentine’s Day is creeping around the corner and the stores are filled with love-themed ideas. I went into Target, or rather “Tar-Jay”, and found myself in a Valentine wonderland. Here is some inspiration for you.
I may have cried when I saw these. #targetisdangerous
It was a given this little guy was coming home with me.
You have heard me talk about The FOLD, our Sunday School class, many times. I love each and every one of them. But the real reason I love my class is this…..
Sir Streusel always brings a lesson that has something each and everyone of us can take something away from and apply it to our lives. He just makes getting up at 5:30am on Sunday morning a little easier for me.
We spent one day this past weekend at Sweet Mama’s house canning figs. You can read all about that here. There are lots of videos of Sweet Mama and Daddy and of course the lead canner “Sir Streusel”. I took soup and dessert over as I knew the kitchen would be off limits for cooking. Sweet Mama loves strawberries. Anything that has strawberries in it, she will eat it and she will love it! This is the dessert I took over for all of us to enjoy, but mostly for Sweet Mama, I’m nice like that.
When Sir Streusel returns home each week, this little girl, Stella, is ready to see her Daddy. They have this ritual on his first night back home where they get eye to eye and play non stop for about 30 minutes. Stella is quick, really quick, and she can jump around the bed like a cat. I am worn out just watching them each week.
This past week my Sunday School class had its monthly Ladies Night Out. It turned out to be the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Ladies Night Out.” We decided that we would go downtown and eat outside with a view of our beautiful water. As some of us arrived, and I am holding a container of delicious Chocolate Shortbread Bars to share, we were told it would be an hour and a half before they could seat us. No problem, we will just take the party somewhere else. We started frantically texting the ladies that we knew were coming to tell them we were changing restaurants. We arrived at restaurant number two, I am still carrying my container of Chocolate Shortbread Bars, and we are told yet again, one hour to one and a half hour wait. We find out that James Taylor is in concert and that is why all the downtown restaurants are packed. Now, I love my Ladies of the FOLD, but I would have ditched them in a second to hear JT sing “Sweet Baby James.” So we pull out our phones and text away telling the ladies we are moving to yet another restaurant. We pull up to the third restaurant, which by the way is five minutes from my home so I have come full circle, walk in and have a great meal with wonderful fellowship. This….this is what made it all worthwhile….
These Chocolate Shortbread Cookies are to die for. I mean like, crazy good! Continue reading Chocolate Shortbread Bars
I love Snickerdoodle cookies. I mean, really love them. So I thought how wonderful it would be to make a bar out of this goodness so I could get a big thick bite all at one time. It worked. I killed it!! All that sugar and cinnamon at one time….aaahhhh, heaven. Sir Streusel ate 5, 6 maybe 8 bars. I don’t know, I lost count. But then again, he never has to worry about pulling out his ‘fat’ pants. You know those pants. The ones we all have tucked away in our closet that we pull on when we are getting in our serious eating groove? I may or may not have two pair. Did I mention that these bars have white chocolate in them? Just another little bonus to enjoy and reason to possibly pull out those ‘special’ pants
My Ballerina Baby trained 5 summers in New York City with the Joffrey Ballet and the American Ballet Theatre. What great summers we had together!
Right around the corner from the apartment we rented every summer for her training was the Chelsea Market. Chelsea Market is an old warehouse full of the most amazing eateries you could ever imagine. Anything you want is in that warehouse. It is also the office space of Food Network, so you KNOW I loved it! We probably ate dinner there three times a week after she finished her daily classes. One of our favorite items to purchase for our walk back to our little apartment was a brownie from Fat Witch Bakery. Those dang things were addictive. We couldn’t get enough of them. A few years back, Fat Witch came out with a cookbook full of all their delicious brownies and bars. Sir Streusel is a brownie addict. After his love of fruit pies, cobblers, crisps, and cookies, the man loves a good brownie. Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. What better way to love on your sweetheart than with a heart shaped brownie. I used these silicone pans. You could always bake these in a 9×9 pan and cut your heart out with a cookie cutter.
