One of the best things I did this year was join a Bunco group. I had never played Bunco before, didn’t even know what it was. I thought it was a card game! There are 12 ladies in the group and we each have a month that we host the night in our home. My month was May. No one likes a party better than me. No one likes to entertain better than me. No one likes to see people enjoying themselves while eating my food more than me. Sadly, I missed the entire night.
I had been decorating, planning and cooking for a week. I was so excited to have the ladies in my home. I had everything done except for putting the pasta in the oven. About 3p.m. I received a phone call that my Mother-in-Law, Vivian, had fallen and broken her hip. She lives in a Memory Care facility and I knew I needed to get to her quickly because she would be very confused with the surroundings around her. I called my girl, Paige, and told her she was in charge of hosting Bunco because Grandma was in the ER. She dropped everything and stepped in at the last minute and hosted like a pro….she is my daughter after all! So while I had this great ladies night going on in my home, I was in the ER with Viv.
It is impossible for me to just serve dinner. I try, but I can’t do it. I want guests to fully engage in the meal and the night, so I always have a theme that the meal is centered around. I chose a beach theme with emphasis on pineapples and flamingos.
Flamingos and pineapples are EVERYWHERE and most of them are in my home!
From the sweet texts and emails I received from the ladies, Paige was the perfect hostess and made the very best of a tough situation by stepping in at the last minute. It was a strange night for me to say the least. It was very weird sitting in the ER while a party was going on in my home. Everything turned out great. Paige handled the night like a pro and Viv got her hip repaired.
I hope you enjoyed seeing my Bunco Beach Night!
