My Sweet Mama and Daddy have one fig tree in their backyard. That tree is very fertile, that is all I can say about that tree. It seemed, the more we sliced, cooked, poured in jars, the more figs were on the counter. They were breeding in front of our eyes! My Sir Streusel is the master canner. I am just his sidekick, his flunky, his Girl Friday, or as he calls me, his Baby Love…swoon.
We arrived at Sweet Mama and Daddy’s home about 9:30 a.m. and hit the ground running. They live 2 1/2 hours from us, I wish I lived closer. We unpacked the car, walked into sweet Mama’s kitchen and saw this……..
Figs were everywhere! I couldn’t believe how many figs came from one tree and that my cute little daddy picked every single one of them.
Sweet Mama cutting the figs in half to help speed up the cooking process. There were a lot of figs to cut!
We had four huge pots going on the stove at the same time. It was hot in Sweet Mama’s kitchen. That is figs and sugar cooking and getting ready to go in the jars.
The test to see if they are ready for the jars. We are real scientific when are canning.
This just got serious, Sir Streusel just put on an apron of Sweet Mama’s.
After seven hours of doing the same thing over, and over, and over, and over, and over, this was the prize! A beautiful sight if I do say so myself.
He’s cute. It doesn’t matter that it took all day long to put up the figs and all the work that was involved, what does matter is that we kept each other laughing during the entire process. Laughter has always defined us, it always will. Even doing something as mundane as canning, we laugh…..hysterically.
